This week, SchoolIT made its first appearance in front of Maine's K12 community at ACTEM 2026.
It was our debut, and it meant a lot to be in a room full of the people who make technology work in Maine schools every day: tech directors, tech integrators, teachers, and administrators.

Why We Were There
SchoolIT exists because many Maine schools don't have a technology director. The work falls to a computer lab teacher, a tech integrator, or a superintendent who is doing their best without the backup they deserve. We wanted to meet those people face to face, hear what they're dealing with, and show them what a K12-specific IT partner can look like.
Our banner says it plainly: most IT vendors don't understand schools, and most school IT support stops at the help desk.
The Conversations
The best part of the day was the conversations. People stopped to talk about what's hard in their buildings: small teams, too many hats, and knowledge that lives in one person's head.

What We Shared
- "The only thing that survives people leaving." Documentation and knowledge continuity, so a district never loses momentum when someone moves on.
- "You don't need to hire an IT director. You need access to one." Director-level strategy and support, without a full-time hire.
- Hundreds of things to know, and every team has blind spots. A second set of experienced eyes helps with the ones you can't see.
Augmenting Your Team, Not Replacing It
Schools will always need a first line of defense on site. We're not here to replace the people already doing that work. We're here to add knowledge and capacity, so they can focus on what only they can do.
Thank You
Thank you to the ACTEM organizers for a great event, and to everyone who stopped by, asked hard questions, and shared what's working and what isn't. We learned a lot.
What's Next
SchoolIT currently provides IT director-level support, with on-site help for infrastructure issues, while we build a team to support the full scope of school technology. We're talking with schools about FY27 commitments now.
If we missed you at the conference, or you'd like to keep talking, we'd love to hear from you.
